English Country Dancing At Dickinson Plantation
The John Dickinson Plantation invites visitors to experience the art of the English country dance on Wednesdays, September 16 & 30, 7-9 p.m. A staple of Regency-era British life rooted in etiquette and social connection, English country dance is the stuff of Jane Austen novels.
The Washington, DC-based Founder and Director of Sebastian English Country Dance, Michelle Sebastian Aldrich, will be on hand to teach the centuries-old form of movement. Michelle will offer demonstrations and easy-to-follow instruction on dance formations and figures, in addition to addressing the social history and the historical significance of this popular dance form.
It is not necessary to come to class with a partner. English Country Dance is social in that partners change throughout the lesson. Everyone dances with one another in this fun, lively, instructor-guided class.
The events are free to the public, with no experience necessary. Participants must be 18 or older, 13 and up if accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program. Participants are encouraged to wear loose, comfortable clothes and flat shoes that prevent skidding on wood or cork floors.
