Proposed Use of NC DPS Disaster Relief and Recovery, Mitigation, and Resiliency Grant Funds for a Water System Interconnection Project
The public is hereby notified that the Haywood County Board of Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. The hearing is regarding Haywood County’s proposed use of $2,006,840 of its NC DPS Disaster Relief and Recovery, Mitigation, and Resiliency grant funds to assist the Towns of Canton, Clyde, and Waynesville with a water system interconnection project.
The proposed project will improve the reliability and resiliency of potable water service between the three communities and provide an emergency water supply interconnection, redundant water storage, and improved water infrastructure to support existing and future residential, commercial, and industrial development. The project includes approximately seven miles of water lines, three booster pump stations, and a 750,000-gallon water storage tank.
The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public an opportunity to review the proposed use of grant funds and provide comments to the Haywood County Board of Commissioners.
