More than three hundred people cross English Channel via five boats

(MENAFN) More than 300 migrants reached the United Kingdom in a single day after 317 people crossed the English Channel aboard five small boats on Saturday, marking the highest daily total recorded so far in 2026, according to reports.

Data cited in reports indicate that approximately 520 migrants have arrived in the UK since the beginning of the year, using nine small boats to make the journey.

The first migrant crossings of the new year were detected on January 5, signaling an early start to Channel activity in 2026.

These latest arrivals follow a year characterized by heightened levels of irregular migration. In 2025, a total of 41,472 migrants made the crossing in small boats, a figure that exceeded the 2024 total by nearly 5,000.

The rise occurred despite tighter policies and increased enforcement measures introduced by the UK authorities to limit irregular migration, as stated by reports.
